Abstract

In two studies, a linguistic intervention reduced political polarization in the 2016 election. Partisans read a post by a political adversary who framed views subjectively (e.g., “I think…”) or not. The intervention led to reductions in political intransigence, attributions of bias, and closed-mindedness both one day and one month later.
