Language Use As a Function of Prioritizing of the Needs of Other People

Using the software LIWC, language analyses reveal that when individuals are tasked with focusing on the needs of others (n = 20) compared to their own (n = 18), they are significantly more likely to express themselves by adopting a perspective which depicts higher expertise and confidence.
