Abstract

Individuals are more likely to call an unfamiliar trivia statement “true” when it is accompanied by a related but non-probative photo. We demonstrate that the scarcity of photos modulates their influence on truth judgments, supporting the hypothesis that the relative processing fluency they engender gives rise to feelings of truth.
