School Discipline By Student Disability Status and Gender: Ratings of HS Educators

Abstract

Does bias contribute to the overrepresentation of students with disabilities among school exclusions? HS educators rated conduct code violations by disability status and student gender in a counterbalanced, within-subjects experiment. Significant gender-by-disability interactions were evident in ratings of severity, but not in recommended suspensions.
