What Accent? the Effect of U.S. Regional Accents on Job Hiring

Abstract

This study examined the effects of applicant U.S. regional accents on competence, hireability, likeability, and salary-negotiation in a job interview setting. There was a reliable interaction of applicant gender and accent on competence and hireability. The were not reliable effects of applicant gender or accent on likeability or salary-negotiation.
