Hawaii False Missile Alert: Perception of the Media, Self, and Others

An assessment of Hawaii residents’ degree of panic to the missile alert revealed that people’s reported behaviors were much calmer than their perceptions of others’ reactions and that the media presented Hawaii residents as much more panicked than they were. We discuss using media to inform us of our reality.
