Abstract

We examined how 5-year-old children’s responses to social threat are influenced by caregiver context. Our results show that children’s threat bias decreased when holding hands with their caregivers. In contrast, mere caregiver presence did not reduce threat bias, suggesting that caregiver touch plays a critical role in attenuating threat vigilance.
