Parental Conditional Regard: A Culture-Specific Risk Factor for Chinese Students
- Ching Hang Joey Wong
Undergraduate Student
Abstract
The study tested the theory that unlike Western children who feel unloved, Chinese students perceive parental love as conditional. We examined effects of parental conditional regard in the academic achievement domain (PCR) on students’ psychological distress. Higher PCR was associated with higher depression and anxiety levels, especially during exam periods.
