Abstract

A study with 115 participants investigated the general claim that mere exposure suffices to increase preference/liking of events. Participants rated the repulsiveness of neutral and negative pictures, some of which had been subliminally pre-exposed. Surprisingly, results showed that pre-exposed negative stimuli were rated as more repulsive.
