Abstract

Using a sample of college students (N = 76,319) from across the U.S., we demonstrate that the approval of marijuana use in one’s friend group is positively correlated with one’s perceived risk of using marijuana. This finding suggests that when one’s friends disapprove of marijuana one’s risk perceptions are elevated.
