The Cognition of Exploration and Exploitation

Regularly, decision-makers face a choice: Repeat a past action expecting a familiar outcome (exploitation) or choose a novel action whose outcome is uncertain (exploration). How do they choose? We investigate though protocol analysis and experiments, replicated in four populations, in the laboratory and the field, in developed and emerging economies.
