Abstract

Numbers of classroom and internet friends were related to children's (Grades 3-5) social competence. For both boys and girls, the more face-to-face classroom friends the less loneliness, and the more internet friends the more loneliness. Gender differences emerged on other competence measures in relation to number of internet friends.
