Does Type of in-Class Response Device Relate to College Student Performance?

Abstract

College students who responded to in-class questions via iClicker remote earned higher course grades than students who responded via smartphone app. Average class time spent using a smartphone for non-class activities negatively correlated with grade. However, there was no relationship between response device used and smartphone off-task behavior during class.
