Social Support Mediates Adverse Childhood Experiences and Adult Depression: But Context Matters

Abstract
Using a national dataset, this study demonstrated that the impact of adverse childhood experiences on adult depression is mediated by the ability to garner social support in adulthood. This effect was stronger for people living on the US mainland than for people living in Hawai‘i. Implications of context are discussed.
