Early Bilingual Cognition: Addressing the Bilingual Advantage and Potential Executive Functioning Mechanisms

Abstract

Current research examines executive functioning mechanisms related to advanced bilingual cognition. Experiments include tasks on visual-spatial memory (VSM), executive functioning, and address several methological factors: low-socioeconomic status, single age group, and monolingual comparison groups (English, Spanish). Results suggest bilingualism leads to success on tasks of VSM, inhibitory and attentional control.
