The Attribution of Altruism in the Absence of Intent

Abstract
Participants were given 1 of 4 scenarios, the action was either altruistic or selfish, and the unintended consequence was helpful or harmful. Pilot data show, among other findings, participants judged the protagonist as being more altruistic based upon the unintended consequence, rather than the explicit intent (p < .05)
