Abstract

Using reverse correlation, we developed a visual representation of an apologetic face. Participants saw forced-choice pairs of the same male base image with differing visual noise and selected which face looked most apologetic. Results indicate that mouth, eye and brow regions are most important to the non-verbal perception of apology.
