These Boots Weren’t Made for Walking: Clothing Choices As a Form of Self-Objectification

Abstract
Consistent with the tenets of objectification theory, this study of 369 college students found women were more likely than men to wear distracting, restricting, or painful clothing. Both women and men who wore such clothing reported higher body surveillance and lower body appreciation than those who chose not to.
