Economic Issues Are Moral Issues: Moral Appeals Increase Charitable Giving to Reduce Economic Inequality

Economic inequality is a pervasive and growing source of social problems. The current study used moral foundations theory to demonstrate that individuals are more likely to donate money to an organization focused on reducing economic inequality when the donation request includes moral appeals consistent with that participant’s moral foundations.
