Abstract

Practitioners with a religion-based Yoga practice (N=198) were compared to Secular Yoga (N=138) practitioners, who used Yoga to improve fitness. Practitioners of religion-based Yoga, grounded in Hinduism, compared to secular practitioners, were significantly higher in altruism towards strangers and lower in empathic distress.
