Abstract

Performance anxiety is characterized by negative future-oriented imagery of threat (flash forwards). Previous lab-studies showed that self-reported unpleasantness of such images is reduced by taxing working memory during visualization of the image. The current experiment found that this intervention also devalues flash forwards in musicians with performance anxiety (N=52).
