Abstract
Participants (N=170) read a fictitious vignette then viewed one of four images (woman alone, woman holding infant, man alone, man holding infant). Afterwards, participants rated targets on warmth, competence, and attractiveness. Both male and female targets were rated significantly less competent when shown holding an infant suggesting a caregiver penalty.
