Abstract

Can machine learning algorithms predict achievement from psychological precursors? Does the accuracy persist across cultures? We used random forest and predicted STEM achievement for half million students at an accuracy of r=.81 for the U.S. but not China, suggesting that advanced machine learning algorithms may still retreat at cultural boundaries.
