Please Avert Your Eyes: Social Anxiety and the Perception of Gaze Direction

Abstract

In two studies we examined the relationship between social anxiety and perception of models’ face and eye gaze direction. Results suggest that socially anxious individuals would perceive a gaze to be more directly on them. Socially anxious individuals also took longer to decide whether people would like them.
