Abstract
An online vignette study found that justification via thinking about past success (i.e., licensing) increased the likelihood of self-control failure. In addition, justification resulted in decreased positive affect and increased negative affect following the self-control decision. Further, engagement in resistance did not influence self-control outcome or mood.
