Abstract

We explored the effects of religiosity and an informational intervention summarizing the dangers of spanking on subsequent parental attitudes toward spanking. The intervention reduced support for spanking only among parents who habitually spank. Finally, participants high (versus low) in religiosity rated spanking more favorably—an effect mediated by diminished anxiety.
