Self-Affirmations Raise Self-Esteem & Lower Perceived Success in Women

Abstract

Individuals participated in an attribute self-affirmation task and completed an anagram task and a self-esteem measure. Men and women in all conditions scored similarly on the anagram task and reported an increase in self-esteem. Still, only men reported an increase in perceived success, whereas, women reported significantly lower perceived success.
