Abstract

Our experiment indicated that the LOP effect under intentional learning instructions could be eliminated by promoting natural semantic processing and self-monitoring with shallow tasks; however, asking subjects to use effective strategies failed. The LOP effect occurs from demands of the shallow processing task which distract subjects from natural semantic processing.
