Abstract

We investigated the association between theories about social stress (entity/incremental theories) and responses to an experimentally manipulated social stressor. Those induced to have an incremental mindset (through hard work one can improve social skills) experienced fewer negative outcomes (such as decreased social self-esteem and increased rumination) following social stress.
