Abstract

Research has found that expressive suppression is correlated with major depression. This experimental study found that suppression had no effect on sadness compared to control condition for depressed or nondepressed participants. However, nondepressed participants experienced less anxiety compared to control condition while depressed participants experienced no less anxiety than controls.
