Abstract

We explored whether 3rd person self-talk facilitates emotion regulation by activating internalized voices of attachment figures. We found that 3rd person (vs. 1st person) self-talk about stressful events did not predict subsequent accessibility of attachment figures. However, 3rd person self-talk inhibited representations of attachment figures for insecurely attached individuals.
