When Can Men Cry? Perceptions of Male Emotion in High-Masculinity Contexts

Abstract

Research on male emotion and male tears have shown that contextual and situational cues have the greatest effects on evaluations these behaviors by others. Guided by both social constructionist and social norms perspectives on masculinity, this experimental study examined people's evaluations of male crying behavior in specifically high-masculine situations.
