The Impact of Social Media Saliency on the Value of Social Rewards

Abstract

Social media use is prevalent in the general population especially among young adults. People have therefore suggested that repeated social-media exposure reduces the need for real-life social connection. Here, we show that thinking about a positive social media experience may instead enhance the desire for social reward and connection.
