Post-Encoding Delay Effects on Verbal Overshadowing

Abstract

Verbal overshadowing refers to the negative effect of providing a verbal description of a face on subsequent recognition of the face. We varied the delay between studying the face and providing the verbal description. Although increasing that delay improved facial recognition, it did not eliminate verbal overshadowing.
