Labels As an Invitation to Form Categories in Infancy

Abstract

Adding a label during categorization has been shown to help infants categorize by highlighting object commonalities. The present study examined the impact of 2 labels on 18-month-olds categorization. Results demonstrate that adding a second label also improves category formation in monolingual infants.
