Abstract

Sex had an indirect effect on problems experienced when attempting to quit in the past, smoking-specific experiential avoidance, and perceived barriers for quitting through long-term and immediate negative consequences and negative affect reduction expectancies. Findings suggested that sex differences though select smoking expectancies may serve to maintain maladaptive smoking processes.
