Adaptive Memory: Exploring Survival Processing in a New Choice Procedure

Abstract

Two experiments explored the survival processing effect in a novel procedure. Participants chose which of two words which would be more useful in either a survival or control situation. For both chosen and unchosen words, recall was higher in the survival condition ruling out congruity as a causal factor.
