Abstract

Why do students generally think academic misconduct is wrong, but commonly think their own acts are permissible? To investigate the possible roles of self-interest and contextual information, we compared students’ evaluations of their own acts of cheating (first-person evaluations) to other students’ evaluations of those same acts (third-person evaluations).
