Parent Engagement during Play As a Mechanism of Gender Socialization

This research examined parents’ level of engagement with boys and girls in a stereotypically-feminine play environment. Parents holding traditional gender-role beliefs (assessed via survey) engaged less with boys than with girls; the opposite pattern was observed for parents expressing egalitarian views. Implications for gender socialization are discussed.
