Keep Calm and Carry on: How Implementation Intentions Can Help Reduce Stereotype Threat Anxiety

Abstract

We examined whether implementation intentions could help lessen stereotype threat anxiety among female undergraduates. Compared with participants who adopted a goal to stay calm during a timed quantitative task, high math identifiers who formed a supplemental if-then plan specifying how to accomplish their goal showed reduced post-test blood pressure readings.
