Abstract

Preschoolers were asked to verbally request certain stickers among similar-looking competitors. Exposure to adults’ more informative descriptions of pictures led children to produce more uniquely identifying referential descriptions. Children's ability to repair their initially ambiguous descriptions was related to their short-term and working memory, and cognitive flexibility.
