Abstract

Cyberball is one of the most widely used paradigms to create social exclusion in the lab. However, we found that participants who were excluded during this game self-reported higher levels of exclusion, but did not induce physiological stress. This challenges Cyberball as an effective laboratory stressor and calls for alternatives.
