Abstract

The current study evaluated emotional processes connecting childhood emotional invalidation with both thought suppression and emotional avoidance. Greater perceived maternal invalidation predicted greater emotional reactivity, which predicted weaker emotion malleability beliefs, which predicted lower emotional clarity, which predicted greater judgment of emotions, which predicted greater thought suppression.
