Gender and Ethnicity Inequalities: STEM Faculty-Student Mismatch in a Minority-Serving Institution

Abstract

Across five STEM colleges, a large minority-serving institution has 49% women and 77% minority students. Although a proportional match of student-to-faculty with respect to gender and ethnicity is associated with increased student performance and faculty satisfaction, this university has 33% women and 39% minority faculty. Differences by department are explored.
