Effects of Social Support on People Undergoing Adversity

This study examined the effects of perceived social support on circumstances of adversity. Undergraduates who were randomly assigned to fail an intelligence test reported gratitude equal to those assigned to perform well, provided they were given an opportunity to affirm their social relationships directly after the failure.
