Abstract
In the lab, compassion has been associated with increased heart rate variability (HRV; Kirby et al., 2017) and heart rate deceleration (e.g., Eisenberg et al., 1996). Using ecological momentary assessment (EMA), we found within-person associations between reported compassion and an initial increase - followed by a stabilization - in HRV.
