Barriers to Male Faculty Academic Goal Attainment

Abstract
The present study examined barriers to professional goal attainment among 625 male faculty at a large, public research university. Endorsed barriers include: significant emphasis on research and grant writing, lack of paternity leave, and minimal understanding of tenure and promotion process. Barriers differed in association with demographic variables (e.g., race/ethnicity).
