Abstract
Parasocial relationships and character identification are two distinct processes through which individuals can become involved with fictional characters. We find that attachment anxiety predicts the formation of parasocial relationships with TV characters, whereas attachment avoidance predicts character identification. Moreover, viewers’ attachment orientations differentially predict the perceived characteristics of favourite characters.
