Abstract

We examined DHEA/cortisol ratios and pubertal status as predictors of the cortisol stress response in a sample of 101 adolescents. We found that although DHEA increases with puberty, it has the opposite effect on the cortisol stress response, suggesting that DHEA compensates for the increased stress sensitivity seen in adolescence.
