Abstract

As many children with heightened behavioral inhibition (BI) do not develop anxiety disorders, the present study examined life stress as a potential moderator. Consistent with diathesis-stress models, children high in BI at age 3 reported greater anxiety symptoms at age 12 after exposure to independent negative life events.
